YoonA and Lee Chae Min have spoken out about the finale of tvN’s hit fantasy rom-com Bon Appétit, Your Majesty—and the possibility of a second season.
The drama, which ended its run on September 28th, followed a top chef Yeon Ji Young (YoonA) who time-slips into the past and crosses paths with Lee Heon (Lee Chae Min), a tyrant king gifted with an absolute palate. The finale pulled in strong numbers, posting a 17.4% average in the Seoul metropolitan area (peaking at 20%) and a 17.1% nationwide average (peaking at 19.4%), both series highs.
In the finale, after getting stabbed to protect Lee Heon, Yeon Ji Young awakens in a modern hospital and returns to her life as a chef. But soon, she reunites with Lee Heon, who has also crossed into the present, sealing their love story with a kiss. While many fans welcomed the happy ending, some voiced disappointment at the lack of explanation for how Lee Heon managed to leap into the modern world.
YoonA, however, said she was satisfied. “I think it was the kind of ending everyone dreams of. It felt beautiful to me,” she said with a smile. On a possible continuation, she added: “I haven’t heard anything about Season 2. If discussions come up and all the actors could return together, I’d like to try it.”
Lee Chae Min also acknowledged fan debates over the finale. “I realized viewers see it in so many different ways,” he said. “But from my perspective, having played Heon, it was simply beautiful. He got to reunite with Ji Young, and that’s all I focused on.”
As for Season 2, Lee admitted he’s thought about what it could look like. “I saw fans asking, ‘Why not make a second season?’ and it showed me how much fun they had. I even wondered, what if it were about Heon adjusting to the modern world? But in the end, I think his story should end in the historical setting.”
