Disney Plus’ Tempest, starring Jun Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won, is dominating global charts—not just for its political thriller storyline, but for the fiery romance that finally unfolded.
The series follows UN ambassador Moon Ju (Jun Ji Hyun) as she hunts the truth behind a presidential candidate’s assassination attempt, while under the protection of mysterious agent San Ho (Kang Dong Won).
Episodes 4 and 5, released on September 17th, ended with the pair sharing a passionate kiss after going into hiding. The moment followed Moon Ju’s discovery of her late husband Jun Ik’s (Park Hae Joon) affair with Kang Han Na (Won Ji An) and her growing reliance on San Ho amid constant threats. A tender scene of him washing her hair hinted at the intimacy to come, leading to the much-buzzed-about kiss.

However, the general viewer response was split. Some criticized the romance as rushed—“There was no buildup,” “A kiss this sudden doesn’t feel earned.” Others swooned: “This is what I’ve been waiting for,” “You can’t cast Jun Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won and not give us romance,” and “Their chemistry is insane. Who cares if it’s sudden?”
The preview for Episodes 6 and 7 added fuel, with the intelligence chief (Yoo Jae Myung) asking San Ho, “Was making her fall in love part of the plan?” while Moon Ju says, “I really thought you came to save me. The moment I believed you was when I was at my weakest.”
Diverse opinions aside, Tempest is a certified hit. As of the 18th, it topped Disney Plus charts in Korea and Taiwan for seven straight days and ranked in the Top 3 across Japan, Turkey, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Two new episodes drop every Wednesday, with nine total. Episodes 6 and 7 premiere on the 24th.
