The Reply 1988 family is making moves to reunite for the show’s 10th anniversary—though one high-profile reunion won’t be happening.
On August 13th, production company eggiscoming confirmed to MyDaily that they are discussing making something for the milestone but noted that “details have not yet been finalized.” Earlier that day, OSEN reported that the team was organizing a group trip to mark the anniversary of the show’s premiere, with plans for an October getaway to Gangwon Province.
First airing in 2015, Reply 1988 captured the warmth and humor of five families living in a single neighborhood in Ssangmun-dong during the late 1980s. The drama went on to record the highest ratings in the Reply series, peaking at 18.8% nationwide (Nielsen Korea).
Naturally, attention has turned to whether lead stars Hyeri and Ryu Jun Yeol—whose on-screen chemistry sparked a real-life romance lasting nearly eight years—would be in the same room again. The pair confirmed their breakup in 2023, and the next year, Ryu’s dating rumors with actress Han So Hee made headlines after Hyeri left a cryptic message on her Instagram.
Hyeri’s agency, Sublime, confirmed her attendance at the anniversary event. However, Ryu Jun Yeol will be absent due to filming commitments for his upcoming Netflix series The Rat (working title).
The original Reply 1988 cast included Hyeri, Park Bo Gum, Ryu Jun Yeol, Sung Dong Il, Lee Il Hwa, Ra Mi Ran, Kim Sung Kyun, Choi Moo Sung, Kim Sun Young, Yoo Jae Myung, Ryu Hye Young, Go Kyung Pyo, Ahn Jae Hong, and Lee Dong Hwi. Whether the Gangwon trip will feature a full-scale cast reunion remains to be seen.
