A woman in her 40s, who posted hundreds of false online comments claiming she was being spied on and threatened by Gong Yoo, has received a six-month suspended prison sentence.

According to a ruling from the Daejeon District Court, the woman was found guilty of online defamation. She repeatedly posted false and defamatory remarks on the internet a total of 235 times for over a year, from January 2020 to March 2021.

During a live broadcast featuring Gong Yoo, she posted comments such as, “I am being intimidated from behind, not a single day passes without intimidation,” and “He is tormenting me to the point of a nervous breakdown.”

An investigation confirmed that she had no personal relationship with Gong Yoo and had never been harmed by him in any way.

In its verdict, the court stated, “Spreading false information repeatedly over a long period severely damaged the victim’s social reputation.” The judge also noted the serious nature of the crime, mentioning that the woman had a prior record of similar offenses.

However, the court suspended the prison sentence for two years, taking into consideration that she admitted to the charges, expressed remorse and stated her willingness to undergo treatment to prevent a recurrence.

Meanwhile, Gong Yoo is currently filming upcoming Netflix original series Show Business (working title). Set in the Korean entertainment industry from the 1960s to the 1980s, the drama is highly anticipated for his collaboration with actress Song Hye Kyo and acclaimed writer Noh Hee Kyung.
