JYP Entertainment has issued a formal apology following backlash over excessive personal data requests at a recent DAY6 fan meeting.
On July 21st, fans took to X to share troubling experiences from the event, claiming they were asked to provide an excessive amount of personal documents for identity verification. Some of the requested materials reportedly included parents’ IDs, family relation certificates, financial documents and even elementary school records.
One fan wrote, “Even after I gave them everything, including the name of my elementary school homeroom teacher, they still didn’t let me in. Two team leaders kept switching out, saying things like, ‘Your nose hasn’t changed, your eyes are the same,’ and refused to confirm my identity. I ended up getting into the concert 15 minutes late.” Other attendees expressed similar frustration, calling the process “very unpleasant” and a serious risk to personal data security.
As criticism grew, JYP Entertainment released a statement on July 21st apologizing to fans who experienced the issue. The agency admitted that the third-party company handling entry management had made excessive demands for personal information. They also announced a compensation plan for those who were denied entry due to the strict verification process.
JYP explained that identity checks were originally intended to prevent scalping and ticket fraud, but acknowledged, “We failed to respond with flexibility and take proper responsibility in this case.” The company added, “We sincerely apologize and will improve our procedures to ensure fan privacy is protected and no unfair data collection happens again.”
