In Omniscient Reader: The Prophet, Ahn Hyo Seop and Lee Min Ho draw attention with their riveting dynamic as a longtime fan and the fictional hero he’s worshipped for years—now brought together in a reality where fiction has come to life.
This highly-anticipated fantasy action film follows Kim Dok Ja (Ahn Hyo Seop), the only person to have read the now-completed series “Ways to Survive the Apocalypse.” On the day the novel ends—with only its main character Yoo Jung Hyuk surviving—something extraordinary happens: the fictional world becomes reality, and Kim Dok Ja finds himself face-to-face with the very hero he once idolized.
But Yoo Jung Hyuk (Lee Min Ho), who has survived countless time loops, greets him with cold suspicion. To him, Kim Dok Ja is an anomaly—an outsider threatening to derail the path he knows. Instead of trusting him, he puts Dok Ja to the test, demanding that he survive long enough to meet him at Chungmuro Station.
Ahn Hyo Seop explained, “To Kim Dok Ja, Yoo Jung Hyuk is a symbol of the person he always wanted to be—someone he admired deeply. But Yoo Jung Hyuk, having gone through endless regressions, sees things in a very fixed way. That contrast is where their conflict begins. If you watch the film while thinking about what these two are each striving for, what drives them, and what kind of efforts they put in, you’ll find yourself even more immersed in their journey.”
Lee Min Ho added, “When this intriguing character Kim Dok Ja shows up, testing him felt like the most Yoo Jung Hyuk thing to do.” On their evolving relationship, he explained, “As Yoo Jung Hyuk watches Dok Ja navigate this world, he grows increasingly curious about him. The two gradually develop a unique bond, built on quietly observing one another.”
Omniscient Reader: The Prophet premieres in theaters nationwide on July 23rd.
