A post began circulating online on May 28th claiming that serious mistreatment took place on the set of the Netflix original series When Life Gives You Tangerines.
The anonymous writer alleged that the production had a bad reputation among background actors, saying, “When Life Gives You Tangerine was known as the geek everyone tried to avoid.” They also claimed backgroud actors were even forced to cut their hair for the role.
Despite being a Netflix production, the post accused the crew of failing to provide even basic support, stating, “The production team was extremely frugal, refusing to spend money on anyone who wasn’t a lead actor. Everything was about cutting costs.”
The writer described poor working conditions during winter filming, saying elderly extras were left outside in the cold and rushed through meals within 30 minutes at a restaurant. “There was no proper food truck or even a table,” they added, and claimed the costume team didn’t provide thermal clothing despite the cold weather.
In one instance, the writer said actors were made to wait outdoors as snow poured down—until one of the main cast members personally walked over to bring someone to a heater. They also revealed that background actors were forced to shave their heads because using wigs was considered too much trouble with their natural hair.
Although the identity of the writer hasn’t been confirmed, the level of detail in the post has led many online to believe the source may be a former staff member.
