Koo Jun Yup, aka DJ Koo is struggling deeply with the loss of his wife, Barbie Hsu, as he appeared visibly thinner while attending a recent family gathering in Taiwan.
On the 12th, Hsu’s mother posted a family photo alongside a heartfelt message on her social media account. “This year’s Mother’s Day is sad, but my son-in-law Jun Yup misses Barbie so much that he’s growing thinner with each passing day,” she wrote. “My other son-in-law Mike always takes such good care of me, and I’m grateful for my wonderful daughters.”
She then went on to show her affection for her younger daughter Dee Hsu, who created an AI video of Barbie to fulfill her wish to hear her now-late daughter say “Congratulations.” “So many celebrities and fans still remember Barbie and have sent warm messages to me,” she added. “I’m truly grateful. I will stay strong. Maybe not right away, but I believe I’ll slowly start to feel better.”
The shared photo shows Hsu’s mother holding a bouquet while surrounded by family. DJ Koo stands beside them, staring quietly into the camera. The weight of his grief is written all over his face—and his visibly frail figure only adds to the heartbreak.
Barbie Hsu passed away on February 2nd during a family trip to Japan after developing pneumonia from influenza. Koo and the family completed cremation procedures in Japan and brought her remains back to Taiwan on February 5th.
Back in April, several Chinese media outlets including Sohu reported that DJ Koo had lost around 12kg (26 pounds) and is crying daily. “To help ease his pain, Dee Hsu’s family has been inviting him over for dinner every week,” one report said. “He only had one close friend with him in Taiwan. With no family of his own there, Koo has been enduring immense grief alone. Hsu’s family has been doing their best to care for him and give him strength.”
