Legal troubles for Kim Soo Hyun are intensifying as advertisers file lawsuits against the actor in growing numbers. The latest lawsuit demands approximately 2.8 billion KRW (about $2 million), bringing the total claims he faces to roughly 6 billion KRW ($4.2 million).
YTN Star exclusively reported on May 2nd that a company, referred to as Company D, filed a lawsuit against Kim Soo Hyun and his agency, Gold Medalist, on April 25th at the Seoul Central District Court. The company is seeking around 2.8 billion KRW ($2 million) in damages.
Company D, which had an endorsement deal with Kim Soo Hyun, claims that negative public sentiment has grown so severe that continuing the contract became untenable due to recent controversies surrounding the actor’s personal life. They are seeking compensation, arguing that the contract’s termination was caused by actions attributable to Kim Soo Hyun and his agency.
YTN Star reported on April 29th that Kim Soo Hyun was facing lawsuits from two other companies, with combined claims totaling about 3 billion KRW ($2.2 million). With Company D’s lawsuit now confirmed, the total claims have surged to around 6 billion KRW ($4.2 million), signaling an escalating legal battle.
The controversy stems from allegations earlier this year that Kim Soo Hyun was involved in a relationship with the late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was a minor. These allegations, which surfaced in March, shocked the public.
In response, Kim Soo Hyun held an emergency press conference on March 31st, vehemently denying the claims. He described the materials released by the bereaved family through a YouTube channel as manipulated and announced plans to pursue robust legal action.
Kim Soo Hyun has since filed a 12 billion KRW ($8.4 million) lawsuit against the bereaved family and YouTuber Kim Sae Ui for damages. Additionally, he filed criminal charges against Kim Sae Ui for violating the Stalking Punishment Act. The court has issued a provisional order prohibiting Kim Sae Ui from engaging in stalking behavior toward Kim Soo Hyun.
