Marry My Husband is getting a Japanese makeover.
Based on the popular Naver web novel that inspired the 2024 tvN sensation, Marry My Husband captivated audiences with its thrilling tale of a woman who, after being murdered upon discovering her husband’s affair with her best friend, gets a second chance at life through time travel and sweet, calculated revenge.
The Korean original was a ratings juggernaut, dominating all the buzz charts. The series placed third on British magazine NME’s “10 Best Korean Dramas of 2024” list and made history as the first Korean drama to reach #1 on Prime Video’s global daily TV show rankings.
Rather than a straight remake, the Japanese version will create a fresh adaptation based on the original novel’s storyline. The project brings together heavy hitters: CJ ENM Japan and Studio Dragon are handling planning, while production duties fall to Jayuro Pictures, known for the film You Are the Apple of My Eye, and Japanese production powerhouse Shochiku.
The Japanese adaptation titled Watashi no Otto to Kekkon Shite boasts an impressive cast led by Fuka Koshiba and Takeru Satoh, supported by Sei Shiraishi and You Yokoyama, creating buzz with this lineup of Japan’s top acting talent.
Behind the camera, the creative team is equally star-studded. Director Ahn Gil Ho, whose credits include the Netflix hit The Glory and Memories of the Alhambra, will be at the helm. The screenplay comes from Satomi Oshima, renowned for the tearjerker 1 Liter of Tears and recent Japan Academy Prize winner for Best Screenplay for 90 Years Old – So What?.
The project will also benefit from K-drama expertise, with Studio Dragon’s Son Ja Young and CJ ENM Global Content Production Team’s Lee Sang Hwa serving as lead producers, the same team behind the original Korean version.
“We’re thrilled to bring ‘Marry My Husband,’ which received so much love from viewers, to Prime Video,” a CJ ENM representative stated. “As K-dramas gain recognition for their production capabilities beyond Korea and throughout the world, we’re developing various projects with local production companies and platforms. We’ll work hard to create a fresh Wavve in the global market through this Korea-Japan collaboration.”
The Japanese version of Marry My Husband premieres on Prime Video on June 27th.
