“Gwan Sik” has transformed.

Park Bo Gum is making a powerful comeback. JTBC’s new weekend drama Good Boy has confirmed its premiere for May 31st and unveiled a striking teaser poster today showcasing Park Bo Gum’s most intense look yet.

Good Boy is a comic action youth investigation drama about medal-winning athletes who become special-recruitment police officers, trading their medals for police badges as they fight against a world full of immorality and foul play. The series brings together director Shim Na Yeon, who won the Best Drama at the 57th Baeksang Arts Awards for Beyond Evil, with writer Lee Dae Il, known for creating distinctive genre pieces like Life on Mars and Chief of Staff series.

Good Boy has already generated buzz by promising a never-before-seen side of Park Bo Gum. The actor recently sparked a Yang Gwan Sik craze through his role in Netflix’s When Life Gives You Tangerines. This time, he transforms into Yoon Dong Ju, a former national boxing champion turned special forces police officer who raises his fists again when faced with unbearable injustice.

After what he describes as ‘one hour of strength training and two hours of boxing training daily for over six months,’ the teaser poster shows him with blood streaming down his face, tightly clenched bandaged hands, veins bulging in his neck, and burning eyes.

Park Bo Gum’s dedication shines through his approach: “I played Yoon Dong Ju with the mindset of someone who pursues justice without calculation, unlike those who act immorally and cheat, and who protects people with healthy minds.” This mindset perfectly embodies the passion he’s infused into the character.

The production team explained, “Good Boy isn’t just an action investigation drama, but a story about how young people facing the walls of reality choose their own way of justice. The teaser poster is the first image that visually compresses Yoon Dong Ju’s instincts and emotions,” adding that “Park Bo Gum went to great lengths to convincingly portray the character, even gaining weight. We’re confident in showing a new side of Park Bo Gum never seen before. Please look forward to the passionate youthful energy he’ll bring to ‘Good Boy.'”

JTBC’s most anticipated 2025 drama Good Boy premieres Saturday, May 31st at 10:40 PM KST.
