Netflix has confirmed a May 30th release date for its first Korean animated feature film, Lost in Starlight.

The film comes from director Han Ji Won, who won the grand prize at the Seoul Indie-AniFest with her debut Kopi Luwak, which was subsequently invited to prestigious festivals including Sundance and Palm Springs.

Her latest work features the voice talents of Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung, generating significant buzz as Netflix’s first Korean animated feature. Lost in Starlight portrays a romance set in 2050 Seoul, following aspiring Mars explorer Nan Young and Jay, a musician who has set aside his dreams, as they meet and journey toward love and their aspirations.

The teaser poster captivates viewers with a romantic moment between Nan Young and Jay against a dreamlike pink sunset. The tender gaze between the two characters builds anticipation for this emotional romance that travels across 225 million kilometers. The tagline, “Never forget. Somewhere in this universe, there is someone always supporting you,” promises a warm love story between two individuals who pursue both dreams and love with their whole hearts.

Director Bong Joon Ho’s endorsement, “This visual masterpiece takes you around the universe,” only heightens expectations.

Meanwhile, accompanied by the tagline “In 2050, an earnest vow of support is pledged between Mars and Earth,” scenes of Nan Young departing for Mars and Jay longing for her stimulate curiosity about what challenges the couple will face.

Featuring voice performances by Kim Tae Ri and Hong Kyung, director Han Ji Won’s distinctive mood, and a stylish soundtrack that elevates the film’s emotional impact, Netflix’s first Korean animated feature Lost in Starlight will be released exclusively on Netflix on Friday, May 30th.
