‘The Match’ Overcomes Yoo Ah In Risk to Claim No.1 in Opening Weekend

The Match has taken the box office by storm in its debut week.

The Korean Film Council reported on April 2nd that The Match attracted 57,737 viewers on April 1st, bringing its total audience to 826,977.

The Match follows the story of South Korea’s legendary Go master Cho Hun Hyun (played by Lee Byung Hun), who taps into his natural competitive spirit to make a comeback after losing to his own protégé. The film has maintained the number-one spot for seven consecutive days since its release on March 26th.

The film’s break-even point is reportedly 1.8 million viewers. So far this year, only Mickey 17 and Hitman 2 have surpassed this milestone, making it a hot topic of discussion whether The Match will follow suit.

Coming in second place is Bridget Jones’s Diary: New Chapter, which debuted with 11,147 viewers on its opening day. Meanwhile, the anime Attack on Titan: The Final Chapter – The Last Attack ranked third, drawing in 9,899 viewers for the day and bringing its total audience count to 560,805.
