Wheesung’s agency Tajo Entertainment later announced, “We are sorry to deliver such heartbreaking and devastating news. On March 10th, our artist Wheesung has left us. The deceased was found in cardiac arrest at his Seoul home and was pronounced dead.”
They continued, “With this sudden news, the bereaved family, fellow artists at Tajo Entertainment, and all staff members are mourning the deceased with deep sorrow. We are heartbroken to deliver this unfortunate news to fans who have shown unwavering support and love for Wheesung. We ask that you pray for Wheesung to rest in peace.”
Wheesung had expressed his emotions several times through Instagram. In May 2023, he posted a message beginning with, “Hmm. Do I look that troubled? Do I appear extremely unhappy?” He went on to confess, “To be honest, beyond happiness or unhappiness, the reality is seriously boring; it’s frustrating. Everything has become so familiar that nothing seems fresh anymore. That’s what I fear the most.”
Wheesung had been sentenced to one year in prison with two years of probation in October 2021 for purchasing and injecting propofol multiple times since 2019. During his first trial in September 2021, Wheesung admitted, “I am very ashamed of myself and regret what I’ve done. I’ve been continuously treating various mental disorders that have tormented me all my life—insomnia, panic disorder, depression—with strong determination for over a year, and the results have been extremely positive.”
Last month on the 9th, he held a birthday fan meeting to connect with fans, and had upcoming joint concerts with KCM on the 15th and a White Day concert on the 23rd scheduled.
