tvN’s weekend drama The Potato Lab has managed to hit viewers’ romance buttons in just two episodes.
Kim Mi Kyung (played by Lee Sun Bin) was reminded of the “sexy director” character from her favorite romance novel when looking at So Baek Ho (Kang Tae Oh). The ending, where Mi Kyung pulls Baek Ho closer for a surprise kiss, sent viewers’ heart rates soaring.
Despite Mi Kyung’s warning not to underestimate her potato laboratory, Baek Ho remained unfazed. Mi Kyung couldn’t figure out the inscrutable Baek Ho. Though she successfully mobilized the village elders, when things unexpectedly escalated, Mi Kyung apologized to Baek Ho and offered to pay the village development fund herself, but Baek Ho refused her proposal.
Contrary to his confidence, Baek Ho’s ordeal continued. His path to the potato lab was blocked at every turn by claims that the roads were owned by Chief Byun (Lee Sang Hee). Eventually, Baek Ho had no choice but to ask Mi Kyung for help, which she offered by making him work in the potato fields. Amidst colorful work clothes, the neatly suited Baek Ho soon found himself rolling around and covered in dirt. Seeing the always-flawless director’s somewhat disheveled appearance made Mi Kyung smile.
The change between these two came at an unexpected moment. Contrary to expectations, Baek Ho didn’t skip the potato lab’s after-work dinner. As Mi Kyung looked at the drunk and sleeping Baek Ho, she was reminded of the “sexy director” on the romance novel cover she had chosen as her ideal type, and her heart fluttered. Mi Kyung unconsciously pulled on Baek Ho’s collar and kissed him, and the ending, with Baek Ho opening his eyes at that exact moment, made viewers’ hearts race.
Meanwhile, Mi Kyung’s ex-boyfriend Park Ki Se (Lee Hak Ju) discovered that Mi Kyung was at the potato lab. That’s when he recalled that he had temporarily assigned Baek Ho to the lab. It remains to be seen what variable he will become in the romance between Mi Kyung and Baek Ho.
Episode 3 of The Potato Lab will air on the 8th at 9:20 PM KST.
