Park Min Young is currently in discussions to sign an exclusive contract with Darum Entertainment (hereinafter Darum), newly established by former Hook Entertainment CEO Kwon Jin Young.
Park, who recently took home the Best Artist Award and Actress of the Year at the 9th Asia Artist Awards, held in Bangkok, Thailand on December 27th last year, recently sat down for an interview with Starnews.
Previously, the actress’s exclusive contract with her former agency Hook Entertainment ended on the 1st of last month. The former agency is providing management support only until the completion of the drama Confidence Man KR (literal title), which Park is currently filming. Meanwhile, on the 18th, CEO Kwon Jin Young also left the company. Since the end of last year, Kwon has terminated her executive contract by mutual agreement with the agency and established Darum with executives whom she had worked with for a long time.
Industry speculation began that Park would follow CEO Kwon to her new company, and on the same day, articles came out that Park would be joining Darum. However, Darum stated, “We plan to discuss an exclusive contract with Park Min Young once she finishes filming ‘Confidence Man KR’ in March.”
Park explained her choice: “CEO Kwon Jin Young and I worked well together. I think a good company for actors is one that allows artists to focus solely on acting without worrying about other things. She let me concentrate only on my work, so I didn’t see the downside. Of course, there’s no company that’s 100% perfect. But I thought if they were partners who made me comfortable and let me act at ease, that would be the best company for me, so I had no complaints.”
She continued, “I value relationships, so I think, ‘I already have good teamwork established, so why go to another company and start this process all over again?’ Of course it could work out, but because I feel stability now, (my former agency) was a good company for me.”
