Taiwanese media reported that Koo Jun Yup attended the farewell ceremony for the late Barbie Hsu on February 13th, appearing visibly weakened.
Koo Jun Yup has long been known for maintaining a fit physique through regular exercise, but local media expressed concern over his health, noting signs of significant muscle loss.
Barbie Hsu passed away recently after her pneumonia worsened while traveling in Japan with her family. The sudden news of her passing has led to an outpouring of condolences in both South Korea and Taiwan.
She and Koo Jun Yup were known for their movie-like love story. The two dated for a year in 1998 before parting ways, only to reunite and marry in 2022—more than 20 years later. Their reunion became a widely discussed topic when it was revealed that Koo had called Barbie Hsu’s phone number he saved from 10 years ago, and she answered, having never changed it.
Following her passing, Koo Jun Yup shared his grief, saying, “My angel returned to heaven on February 2nd. Right now, I’m going through an indescribable pain, like my heart is being ripped apart”
As for Barbie Hsu’s estate, which is estimated to be worth approximately 120 billion KRW (about $90 million USD), Koo stated, “She worked hard to build her assets to protect the family she loved, so I intend to give all rights to my mother-in-law.” However, Taiwanese legal experts noted that rather than renouncing his inheritance outright, he would need to formally accept it first before transferring it to Barbie Hsu’s mother.
