MC Mong has penned a heartfelt tribute to his late People Crew crewmate Oh Sung Hoon in a lengthy social media post shared on Tuesday.
“I wish Sung Hoon is happy,” MC Mong wrote. “I’m so sorry. Like the mark left by a ballpoint pen pressing against the heart, I wish I had said more beautiful words. I came late because I was too scared of this unexpected farewell and misfortune…”
He continued, “I came home and saw the note your sister showed me, and my world crashed down. At the funeral, I didn’t recognize anyone—how little did I know about you? Like those strangers, how much didn’t I know? How differently did we adapt to the world all this time?”
Then the rapper made a poignant promise: “I’ll fight and win the lawsuit you were working on in your place. I promise. I’ll restore your honor as a respected composer and see you again, Sung Hoon. I’m so, so sorry and I’m in so much pain. I really, really love you, my friend.”
Oh Sung Hoon was found deceased in his recording studio on February 3rd, sending shockwaves through the industry. He was 45.
The late artist began his career as a B-boy before joining MC Mong’s People Crew in 1998, marking his official debut in the music industry. After the group’s third album in 2002, Oh transitioned to composing, establishing himself as a hitmaker with songs like KCM’s “Sad Snowman,” MC Mong’s “Huckleberry Mong’s Adventure,” and Navi’s “My Heart is Hurt.”
