The TVING original series Queen Woo is ramping up the tension with high-stakes plot twists as Jeon Jong Seo‘s character, Queen Woo Hee, fights to protect herself and her family amidst the chaos of the king’s death.
The sudden passing of the king has thrown Queen Woo Hee and her family into a perilous situation. With no heir to the throne, whoever takes power next will decide the fate of the Woo family. To secure her future, Woo Hee decides to engage in a levirate marriage (queen marrying the deceased king’s brother), before news of the king’s death spreads. Under the protection of Mu Gol (Park Ji Hwan), she heads for Go Bal Gi (Lee Soo Hyuk), one of the three princes in line for the throne.
However, after witnessing Go Bal Gi’s violent nature firsthand, Woo Hee realizes he is unfit for the throne and makes a swift escape, setting off a dangerous pursuit. Belatedly hearing the news of the king’s death, Go Bal Gi kills his own wife in preparation to marry the queen, only to realize Woo Hee is gone. Furious, he calls upon the White Tiger Tribe to track her down, sparking a high-stakes chase.
While Woo Hee fights for survival outside the palace, inside, Eul Pa So (Kim Mu Yeol), the nation’s prime minister, is locked in a mental chess game to uncover the truth behind the king’s suspicious death. Eul Pa So suspects the king was poisoned with lily of the valley, a plant carefully controlled by the palace. He deduces that someone close to the king may have inadvertently—or intentionally—caused his death and begins a quiet investigation starting with the king’s closest aides.
One key suspect is Woo Hee’s older sister, Woo Soon (Jung Yu Mi), who had ambitions for the queen’s throne. Woo Soon once gave the king a love potion provided by Shaman Sa Bi (Oh Hani), raising the question of whether her mistake may have triggered the tragedy. Adding to the mystery are several other figures with motives to kill the king, including Hae Dae Bu (Oh Dae Seok), who previously expressed his desire for the king’s death, and Yeon Bi, who holds a deep grudge against the Go royal family.
The power struggle between the queen, princes, and tribes continues to unfold in Queen Woo Part 2, slated for release on September 12th at noon KST on TVING.
