Revolver has broken the opening day box office record set by The Shameless.

The movie, the highly anticipated second collaboration between Jeon Do Yeon and director Oh Seung Uk, kicked off with a strong opening. The film drew in 56,082 moviegoers on its first day, surpassing the opening day record of its predecessor, However, the momentum slowed down significantly on the second day, with attendance dropping to the 20,000 range.

Critics were largely enthusiastic about the film, with outlets like Joy News and Daily Ahn highlighting the “spine-chilling performances” of the lead actors and director Oh Seung Uk’s skillful direction. Early audiences echoed this sentiment, highlighting the compelling chemistry between Jeon Do Yeon and Oh Seung Uk. “The combination of Jeon Do Yeon and Oh Seung Uk is excellent as expected,” one viewer said. Another added, “Revolver‘s unique charm surpasses The Shameless.

Despite the some positive reception, Revolver has encountered mixed reactions from the general public. The film’s audience score on CGV stands notably lower than its competitor, Pilot, with a 71% golden egg index compared to Pilot‘s 92%. Similarly, Naver Movie’s audience rating of 6.93 out of 10 indicates a divided opinion among viewers.

“The story was disappointing and the pacing was slow,” one viewer commented. “I was particularly looking forward to Jeon Do Yeon’s action scenes, but the overall performance felt underwhelming,” they added.

“I found the film incredibly boring and couldn’t figure out what it was about,” another viewer complained. “The person next to me was actually falling asleep. I’m glad I saw it with a discount; I would have been furious if I’d paid full price.”

Other viewers expressed similar frustrations, with comments ranging from “a boring journey with meaningless characters” to disappointment in the film’s overall impact. Some critics even questioned the casting choice, feeling that Jeon Do Yeon’s talent was wasted on such a project.

Here are the translations of the comments left in the Naver Movie and CGV review section:

“I wanted to shoot one of the remaining two bullets at the screen and the other at myself for sitting through it until the end.”

“I watched the movie. I left after 100 minutes. I’ve never walked out of a movie before. I watched it on the opening day because the actors were great. I usually don’t write reviews like this; your time is precious, so don’t bother asking for details…”

“No plot. No impressive action sequences. Slow pacing.”

“It’s just really, really boring.”

“A movie that proves even big-name actors can make a flop. It tries to build up tension but suddenly turns into a comedy that makes you laugh out loud, and then it ends abruptly with a disappointing and anticlimactic conclusion. Sigh…”

“This is the worst movie I’ve ever seen. Please watch something else.”

“I thought the movie was building up from the beginning, but it felt like it ended abruptly without any context. The main character is a flat character who is only focused on one goal, and the stories of the other characters are so lacking that the movie feels very empty. As soon as the movie ended, I thought, ‘Is that it?'”

“It’s not only boring but also disappointing…”

“It’s full of style but no substance.”

“It would have been better if it was 50 minutes shorter. The worst movie ever.”

“How could they make a movie like this with such famous actors as Jeon Do Yeon, Ji Chang Wook, Lim Ji Yeon, Lee Jung Jae, and Jung Jae Young? I couldn’t get immersed in the movie, and I kept thinking, ‘What is this?’ while watching it. This might be the worst movie of the year.”
