SM Entertainment is making waves with its first-ever British boy group, Dear Alice.
On August 1st (local time), Dear Alice was officially unveiled at a press conference held at the Soho Hotel in London. This launch is a collaboration between SM Entertainment and MOON&BACK.
The event featured the premiere of the first episode of the six-part TV series Made in Korea: The K-Pop Experience, which documents the journey of Dear Alice as they prepare for their debut. The series will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in August. The press conference, attended by major British media such as The Press Association, The Sun, and Metro, revealed the group’s name and introduced its five members: Blaise Noon (19), Dexter Greenwood (22), James Sharp (23), Oliver Quinn (20), and Reese Carter (20).
Blaise Noon, the youngest member, hails from London and studied acting, singing, and dancing at the BRIT School. Dexter Greenwood, also from London, holds a degree in Musical Theatre from the D&B Academy of Performing Arts. James Sharp from Huddersfield is a content creator, while Oliver Quinn from Sunderland was a choir member in his youth. Reese Carter from Wiltshire performed on cruise ships before joining the group.
During the press conference, Greenwood shared, “Training at SM was an incredible journey for all of us. We received amazing support from SM staff and Korean professionals, which made this experience and our team’s formation possible.” He added, “Korea was fantastic. I fell in love with Korean culture, and everyone was so generous and kind; it felt like a second home.”
Carter expressed his awe at K-Pop, saying, “I visited Korea last year and worked as a dancer on a cruise, visiting many cities. Through these experiences, I realized the vast infrastructure of the K-Pop industry. K-Pop’s influence is felt everywhere.”
Sharp, the oldest member, mentioned, “My aunt is a huge K-Pop fan and runs a fan page, so she gave me a lot of information. My favorite group is RIIZE. They are truly amazing,” he said, prompting other members to acknowledge James as a big fan of the group, drawing laughter from the press.
The series Made in Korea: The K-Pop Experience will offer British viewers a closer look at K-Pop and Korea through the story of Dear Alice’s 100-day training period at SM in Seoul.
