Rapper Ch1tkey is facing intense backlash after staging his own death to promote his new music.
Ch1tkey posted a video yesterday on his social media with the caption “Nice to meet you again.” The lyrics of the song in the video included phrases like “Did you think I was dead?” and “I’m back.”

Earlier that day, a story had spread on online communities claiming that Ch1tkey had fallen to his death while filming an Instagram video on the rooftop of a building in Seoul.
An internet user claiming to be Ch1tkey’s friend wrote, “He was trying to pretend to fall off the edge of the roof to fulfill a promise he made with the viewer, but he slipped and fell. We called 119 and took him to the emergency room, but he was pronounced dead due to cardiac arrest.”
A woman claiming to be Ch1tkey’s girlfriend also posted on social media, writing, “It’s almost our 300-day anniversary. Thank you for loving me and cherishing me every day. I will live my life always remembering you. Even though I’m trying to calm down, I still can’t. My head hurts from crying so much, but I believe you went to a better place. I love you. I’m sorry and thank you. I hope you are always happy wherever you are.”
However, it was all a prank. Ch1tkey confirmed the stunt long after the death rumors had spread, posting, “Sorry to the rappers on Show Me the Money and TV rappers. I’ll take it from here.” The woman who claimed to be the rapper’s girlfriend also wrote, “Sorry,” and “Today is resurrection day. It’s a happy day. Everyone, enjoy.”
Netizens who saw this reacted with criticism, leaving comments such as, “Never pick up a mic again,” “This is so stupid,” and “Was the girlfriend’s story fake too? Birds of a feather flock together.”
