JTBC’s new action crime drama Good Boy has announced a star-studded cast featuring Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, and Tae Won Seok, set to premiere later this year.
Good Boy follows the story of former medalists who become police officers, taking on a world rife with corruption and injustice. The series is directed by Shim Na Yeon, known for her work on Beyond Evil and The Good Bad Mother, with writing by Lee Dae Il, who previously penned Chief of Staff and Life on Mars.
Park Bo Gum stars as Yoon Dong Joo, a former boxing gold medalist who joins the police force through a special recruitment program. He burst onto the boxing scene with his innate toughness and fists, winning a gold medal. However, after a single incident brought his glory days to an end, he now lives a second life as a police officer. Dong Joo is a fearless officer who throws himself into danger without hesitation for the sake of justice.
Kim So Hyun plays Ji Han Na, a former shooting gold medalist who now serves in the special investigations team. Known for her stunning beauty during her athletic career, she was dubbed the “Shooting Goddess” and enjoyed a celebrity-like following. However, the attention also came along with a whole bunch of haters and misunderstandings. Disillusioned, Han Na suddenly retired from sports and pursued her long-held dream of becoming a police officer like her father. Now, her sharp aim targets ruthless criminals rather than competition targets.
Oh Jung Se portrays Min Joo Young, a diligent customs officer who hides a darker side. By day, he wears the mask of a sincere public servant, but by night, he becomes a shadowy figure dominating the city of Inseong. Lee Sang Yi joins the cast as Kim Jong Hyun, a former fencing silver medalist turned detective who uses his skills to excel in his new role.
Heo Sung Tae plays Go Man Shik, a former wrestling bronze medalist and the tough leader of the special investigation team. Despite lacking physical prowess compared to other wrestlers, Man Shik’s keen instincts are his greatest asset. Lastly, Tae Won Seok takes on the role of Shin Jae Hong, a former discus thrower with a bronze medal and a gentle giant who joins the team to provide for his wife and two sons.
The production team teased, “Coming at the end of 2024, ‘Good Boy’ will be a refreshing and fiery drama that breaks through the cold and stifling realities. With top-tier performances from Park Bo Gum, Kim So Hyun, Oh Jung Se, Lee Sang Yi, Heo Sung Tae, and Tae Won Seok, we expect ‘Good Boy’ to deliver a ‘good’ synergy at its peak.”
Good Boy is slated to air on JTBC in the second half of the year.
