The filming for Netflix’s hit series Squid Game has wrapped, with both Season 2 and Season 3 set for sequential release.

According to the OSEN report on the 14th, the cast and crew recently concluded filming the new seasons, which spanned 11 months from July last year to June this year. To celebrate, they enjoyed a two-day wrap party in Gapyeong, featuring water sports and a barbecue.

Last year, OSEN exclusively reported that Seasons 2 and 3 were being filmed simultaneously. While Netflix initially denied this, stating, “We are currently focused on Season 2 and have not confirmed simultaneous production,” multiple sources have now confirmed that both seasons were indeed shot back-to-back. “It’s like filming one long story and splitting it into Seasons 2 and 3,” an insider shared.

Season 2 of Squid Game will consist of six episodes, with Season 3 expected to have a similar count of six to seven episodes. This format mirrors Netflix’s The Glory, suggesting that the gap between the two seasons won’t be long.

Speculation is rampant about what to expect in Season 2, including rumors of the appearance of Young Hee’s boyfriend, Chul Su, and even more intense games than in Season 1. Whether these rumors will come to fruition remains to be seen, but excitement is building.

Director Hwang Dong Hyuk, who made history as the first Asian to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series, returns to direct, write, and produce Season 2. Lee Jung Jae, the first Asian actor to win an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series, will reprise his role. Joining them are returning cast members Lee Byung Hun, Wi Ha Jun, and Gong Yoo, as well as new additions like Yim Si Wan, Kang Ha Neul, Park Gyu Young, Lee Jin Wook, Park Sung Hoon, T.O.P., and more. The new season is expected to premiere in the second half of 2024.
