In a recent interview, Byeon Woo Seok candidly discussed his experiences filming romantic scenes with co-star Kim Hye Yoon in the hit tvN drama Lovely Runner. The series, which follows a heartfelt romance spanning 15 years, has garnered significant attention and praise for its touching narrative and strong performances.
When asked about his on-screen partner, Byeon Woo Seok had nothing but admiration for Kim Hye Yoon. “We had a lot of moments where we communicated deeply,” he shared. “Our chemistry was great. We discussed how to approach certain scenes together, and all those talks helped with my acting. And her bright energy on set was incredibly inspiring.”
The Lovely Runner star went on to praise her performance, particularly her emotional scenes. “In the ten months of filming, she cried for about eight months. I often thought, ‘How can she cry so beautifully?’ Her tears would well up like a dam and then flow down her cheeks. When receiving emotions from Sol, my character Sun Jae’s feelings naturally followed.”
Their intense on-screen romance captivated viewers, often blurring the lines between fiction and reality. “Sun Jae was always excited when looking at Sol,” Byeon Woo Seok confessed. “The scene where Sol runs to hug him at the swimming pool was especially so. It’s a scene where the person you’ve been crushing on runs to hug you, so it couldn’t help but be exciting. I felt thrilled in every moment while acting.”
The audience’s investment in their characters led to hopes for a real-life romance between the actors. Byeon Woo Seok responded with gratitude, saying, “I was pleased to hear that. It shows how deeply people were immersed in the drama. I felt proud knowing that people enjoyed our drama. As Sun Jae, I wanted to date Sol too,” showing his deep affection for his character.
Reflecting on the more intimate scenes, Byeon Woo Seok admitted to feeling embarrassed. “It’s not easy to kiss in front of so many people. The kiss scenes were one thing, but the scene where I wake up and talk to Sol in bed felt especially shy. It was quite embarrassing. The kiss scenes were heart-fluttering, but that moment felt even more son.”
