Lee Young Ae will be returning as Dae Jang Geum in the sequel to the mega-hit series, Jewel in the Palace.
Fantagio officially announced on January 30th that Lee Young Ae will lead Female Physician Dae Jang Geum (literal title), slated for filming in October of this year. The agency also stated that they have completed their deal with the show’s writer.
Female Physician Dae Jang Geum will explore the life of Jang Geum after she becomes the first female physician in the Joseon Dynasty following the 2003 MBC drama Jewel in the Palace.
Jewel in the Palace tells the tale of an orphaned kitchen cook who went on to become the King’s first female physician. The show caused a sensation with a record-breaking viewership rating of 57% during its run.
The hit series is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. In line with this, Female Physician Dae Jang Geum is preparing for production to start filming this year and airing early next year. The title and network for the drama are still being finalized.
