BTS’s Jimin and NewJeans have nabbed nominations in four categories for the upcoming 2023 Billboard Music Awards.
According to the nominee list released by the award organizers on the 26th local time, Jimin is vying for titles in Top Selling Song, Top Global K-pop Artist, Top K-pop Album, and Top Global K-pop Song.
NewJeans has also made it to the esteemed list, earning nominations in Top Billboard Global Artist (excluding the U.S.), Top Global K-pop Artist, and Top K-pop Album. Not to be outdone, their songs “Ditto” and “OMG” are both up for the title of Top Global K-pop Song.
This year’s Billboard Music Awards are turning the spotlight squarely on K-pop, introducing four new categories dedicated to the genre. And, of course, K-pop acts are dominating these new divisions, with TWICE receiving three nods and both Stray Kids and Tomorrow X Together (TXT) getting two nominations each in K-pop-specific categories.
There’s also FIFTY FIFTY, who are currently on hiatus due to contract issues with their agency, but have still scored nominations in the Top Duo/Group and Top Global K-pop Song categories. And let’s not forget BLACKPINK and BTS’s Suga, who are in the running for Top K-pop Touring Artist, while BTS’s Jungkook has been selected as a nominee for Top Global K-pop Song.
At last year’s award, BTS won three awards including Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist, and Top Selling Song. Now, all eyes will be on the K-pop giants when the winners are announced on November 19th.
