Kim Tae Ri and Shin Ye Eun will present a new look as girls performing pansori (a traditional Korean music genre of musical storytelling) in the upcoming drama.
On the 10th, the new drama Jeong Nyeon (literal title) revealed its casting lineup. Kim Tae Ri, Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, with Moon So Ri making a special appearance.
Set in the aftermath of the Korean War in the 1950s, Jeong Nyeon tells the story of a naturally gifted girl named Jeong Nyeon whose talent for sound shines through. The drama portrays her entry and growth within a female traditional theater group. It’s based on the Naver webtoon of the same name that gained great popularity with its fresh subject matter and artistic integrity.
Kim Tae Ri takes the lead role as Yoon Jeong Nyeon, a pansori genius who comes to Seoul with dogged determination to become a traditional theater actress. Shin Ye Eun will play the acknowledged Heo Young-seo, who possesses talents in singing, dancing, and acting, along with an impressive family background. She will showcase a rival chemistry with Jeong Nyeon.
Ra Mi Ran turns into the leader of the Maeran Theater Group, Kang So Bok. She’s a straightforward woman with charisma. Moon So Ri will add strength with a special appearance as Jeong Nyeon’s mother, Seo Yong Rye, a woman who has buried her past as a genius pansori singer and raises her child alone.
The production is jointly undertaken by Studio N, Management mmm, and npioe Entertainment. Management mmm is making a full-fledged entry into drama production with Jeong Nyeon.
Meanwhile, Jeong Nyeon will start filming next month and aims to air in 2024.
