TWICE held their solo concert on June 12th at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, which is reportedly the world’s most expensive stadium that cost $4.9 billion to build. The group became the second K-pop act after BTS and the first female act in the scene to sell out the arena.

According to Hyundai Motor Securities, around 11 million people are expected to have enjoyed live in-person K-pop concerts this year, with over 500 people visiting the venues in the first half alone. The current phenomenon is attributed to ‘Girl Power.’ Kim Jin Woo, a senior researcher at Circle Chart, analyzed the recent trend by explaining “BLACKPINK’s global success drove many Korean girl groups to seek entry to Western countries, which ultimately boosted the ability to attract audiences.” In fact, many female acts including TWICE, BLACKPINK, aespa, (G)I-DLE, Mamamoo and ITZY held concerts all over the world. LE SSERAFIM is also scheduled to kick off their 2023 Asian tour in seven countries starting in August.

BLACKPINK is likely to draw the largest audience this year considering their record-setting ticket sales after surpassing English girl group Spice Girls. Meanwhile, TWICE’s global popularity skyrocketed as they started actively promoting overseas after signing with Republic Records in 2022.
