BLACKPINK’s very own Jennie graces the July issue of Vogue Japan, adding another accomplishment to her already illustrious career. Dubbed the “global star who’s accomplished many,” the K-pop sensation takes center stage in a pictorial themed “world tour.”
Jennie’s heartfelt reflection on her journey reveals the significance of her roots. “The best thing in my career was being able to debut as BLACKPINK and working hard alongside the members to get where we are now,” she shares. Still holding close to her heart one of their debut tracks, “WHISTLE,” Jennie adds, “I feel the most attached to it. I love how it encapsulates the fresh, confident energy unique to us at the time.”
This year in April, BLACKPINK made a triumphant and historic return to Coachella as the first Asian girl group to headline the event. “Every moment in my career is important. But performing at Coachella in 2019, being on a world tour right now, and seeing BLINKs around the world who we haven’t been able to meet for so long — these are especially memorable. Four years have passed since our last Coachella, and I believe we’ve grown and matured during that time.”
BLACKPINK’s world tour, aptly named “BORN PINK,” is set to continue until August. Recounting memories from the tour, Jennie reflects, “Spending time in Amsterdam with the members was especially memorable.”
She adds, “I’d love to visit Africa someday. I want to see my favorite animals and experience the stunning nature. When I visit unfamiliar places, I try to make the environment feel as much like home as possible. I bring my favorite pillow, pajamas, and relaxing essential oils. On the plane, I always have my pillow, eye mask, and iPad. I save some entertaining videos on my iPad for those occasional sleepless flights.”
Jennie describes herself as a “shy girl off-stage, although charismatic and powerful on-stage.” Her interests include collecting crystals, which she finds therapeutic. The times she cherishes most are those when she can relax completely. “Lying in bed on my day off, not thinking about anything. I listen to ASMR of the nature or the universe before sleep. It helps me sleep well.” Her go-to emojis? The “heart” and “LOL.”
As a recognized K-pop icon, Jennie has faced and overcome numerous challenges. “I think people who have a clear opinion and thinking are called ‘icons.’ Rather than uttering an answer everyone agrees with or acting to please others, I believe it’s essential to have your own perspective and present that to people,” she shares.
Her secret to resilience lies in balance and self-care. “A healthy mind lives in a healthy body. By resting well, eating well, and exercising regularly, both body and mind can remain healthy. Especially during the busy comeback period, I strive to create a comfortable and quiet environment where I can get as much sleep as possible within the given time.”
