Hwang Minhyun is reportedly leading the upcoming series Study Group (literal title).
On the 22nd, an insider revealed to Sports Chosun, “Hwang Minhyun has been cast as the protagonist in the new TVING original series Study Group.” The series is based on a popular webtoon of the same name, featuring a bloody tale of a boy named Yoon Ga Min, who wishes to excel academically when his talent is solely for fighting, as he forms a study group in the “worst” school ever.
Hwang Minhyun will portray the character Yoon Ga Min, who, at first glance, seems like a model student. However, his school uniform has the logo of Yuseong High School, notoriously the worst in the country. Despite his efforts to study diligently, his academic performance never improves. Nonetheless, this youthful character remains hopeful and determined to attend college. But the moment his study group friends fall victim to bullying, Yoon Ga Min takes off his glasses, unleashing his full-fledged fighting abilities.
Hwang Minhyun, who made his drama debut in the 2020 series Live On, has proven his acting chops in tvN’s Alchemy of Souls. He is also expected to showcase a new side of him alongside Kim So Hyun in the upcoming drama Useless Lies (literal title). Now, fans are anticipating his action-packed performance in Study Group, a step beyond his typical “nice guy” image.
Study Group is currently undergoing casting, directed by Miracle and Be with You helmer Lee Jang Hoon. Shooting will begin once the cast lineup is finalized.
