Song Joong Ki, Hong Xa Bin, and BIBI shared their thoughts on their film Hopeless getting officially invited to the 76th Cannes Film Festival’s “Un Certain Regard” category.

Hopeless is a noir drama that follows Yeon Gyu, a boy seeking escape from a nightmarish reality, as he joins forces with mid-level boss Chi Geon, leading them on a perilous adventure through an unstable world. The film has achieved the remarkable feat of being officially invited to the “Un Certain Regard” section of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, which opens on May 16th.

Hong Xa Bin plays Yeon Gyu, an 18-year-old boy with nowhere to lean on in his hellish reality. The actor said, “It is an honor that the film Hopeless has been invited to the Cannes. I am also very honored and grateful to be a part of such a wonderful film. I would like to extend my thanks to all the staff members who worked hard until the festival announcement.”

Song Joong Ki plays Chi Geon, a mid-level boss in an organization who has lived life in his own way in a hellish world. He commented, “It is an honor and a thrilling feeling. Hopeless set was filled with the burning and pure passion of all the actors and staff members. I am happy that we can present the work we fiercely created in the given environment to the world for the first time. The intensity I felt when I first read the script will soon be shared with the audience, making my joy even greater. As it’s a celebration of filmmakers, I’ll be sure to fully enjoy it and make the most of my time there.

BIBI takes on the role of Yeon Gyu’s younger sibling Ha Yan. She said, “It’s amazing. It feels like I didn’t do much to this great work that the director and actors Song Joong Ki and Hong Xa Bin had done so much on. I’m just grateful and will try my best there.”

Hopeless director Kim Chang Hoon achieved the remarkable feat of receiving an official invitation to the Cannes Film Festival with his debut feature film. He said, “I’m incredibly thankful for the dedication of the actors and production team involved in this film, and it’s both exciting and humbling to see their hard work recognized. Being a part of this esteemed festival, a dream for all filmmakers and one I’ve had since childhood, is an absolute honor.”

Meanwhile, Hopeless is scheduled to be released this year.
