The 76th Cannes Film Festival will showcase two highly anticipated films: Cobweb, the latest work by renowned director Kim Ji Woon, and Hopeless, the debut feature film of director Kim Chang Hoon.

During a press conference on April 13th, the executive committee of the upcoming Cannes Film Festival announced their lineup, which features two South Korean films: Cobweb, screened out of competition, and Hopeless, shown in the Un Certain Regard section.

Cobweb tells the story of a director (played by Song Kang Ho) in the 1970s who is determined to create a masterpiece despite government censorship and uncooperative actors. The film features an all-star cast, including Song Kang Ho, Lim Soo Jun, Oh Jung Sae, Jeon Yeo Bin, and Krystal. This marks Song Kang Ho’s eighth invitation to the Cannes Film Festival and his reunion with director Kim Ji Woon after 15 years since their last collaboration in 2008’s The Good, the Bad, the Weird.

Hopeless follows the story of a young boy (Hong Sa Bin) who longs to escape his difficult reality. When he meets a man (Song Joong Ki) in charge of middle management for a criminal organization, the two embark on a dangerous journey together. Song Joong Ki reportedly appeared in the movie without payment and will be joined by rookie actresses Hong Sa Bin and BIBI. The film marks Song Joong Ki’s debut at Cannes, having mainly appeared in dramas before. All eyes are on whether the actor will attend the red carpet with his newlywed wife, Katy Louise Saunderson.
