Money Heist: Korea, the Korean remake of the hit series Money Heist, depicts a hostage crisis in Korea involving a genius strategist and people with different personalities and abilities. It’s staged against the backdrop of the Korean peninsula that’s nearing unification.
As of the 29th, Money Heist: Korea has garnered 33.74 million views in just three days of the release, ranking first in Netflix’s global Top 10 TV (Non-English) category. The show was ranked in the Top 10 chart in 51 countries including Italy, Mexico, Thailand, and Egypt, and ranked first in six countries including Korea. The overseas media outlets heaped lavish praise on the show. RogerEbert wrote, “‘Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area’ is ambitious for its plan, exciting for the twists and turns, inviting for its characters, and is just plain addictive.” Rolling Stone applauded the cast but showed disappointment in the romantic affairs. “The all-star cast is more than capable of delivering the goods. Yet the lack of chemistry between the romantic partners hinders, rather than enhances the plot.”
