‘Squid Game’ Makes History as the First Foreign Language TV Series to Score 4 Nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards

Squid Game has scored four nominations for the 28th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. The show picked up nominations for outstanding ensemble, actor in a drama series (Lee Jung Jae), actress in a drama series (Jung Ho Yeon), and stunt ensemble.

On January 12th (U.S. Time), the SAG Awards announced this year’s nominees on their official website. Squid Game is up for outstanding ensemble in a drama series opposite The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu), The Morning Show (Apple TV Plus), Succession (HBO), and Yellowstone (Paramount Networks).

Lee Jung Jae has earned a nomination for outstanding performance by a male actor in a drama series opposite Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong of Succession, and Billy Crudup of The Morning Show.

Jung Ho Yeon also landed her first SAG Awards nomination alongside a number of other award considerations such as Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon of The Morning Show, Elizabeth Moss of The Handmaid’s Tale and Sarah Snook of Succession.

The entire ensemble and the stunt ensemble were both recognized with Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations. Other nominees include Cobra Kai, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki and Mare of Easttown.

Previously, Bong Joon Ho‘s Parasite won the cast in a motion picture award at the 2020 SAG Awards, and Yoon Yeo Jung won the female actor in a supporting role award for her role in Minari last year. As Squid Game’s cast member Oh Young Soo became the first Korean actor to win a Golden Globe, people are expectant to see if Squid Game will continue its winning streak at the upcoming awards.

The 28th SAG Awards ceremony will be held on February 27th.
