Actor Jang Dong Yoon has come forward with an apology for joining Joseon Exorcist.
He posted a statement through Dongyi Company’s SNS account on the 27th. The actor expressed his apologies saying, “I will make no excuses. I am sincerely regretful. I was unaware that the work would be this problematic. It’s because I was ignorant and complacent.” Jang Dong Yoon continued to acknowledge and apologized for his misjudgment. “I only approached the work from the perspective of an actor. The parts where I should have been more careful with the social aspect slipped my mind,” he confessed.
Jang Dong Yoon then wrote, “There was no reason for me to refuse this work because I was able to work alongside the director and actors whom I respect. It seemed like the best choice, considering that I had limited options. As I have mentioned, this was because I couldn’t think straight enough.”
Though he was worried that his apology would turn into a pleading, he said, “I will humbly accept the consequences even if anyone perceives it as an excuse, contrary to my intentions.” He made an end to the post, stating, “If you would be kind enough to understand, I will keep this incident in my heart and grow into a more mature actor.”
SBS’s Monday and Tuesday series, Joseon Exorcist, was suspected of historical distortion from its first episode on the 22nd. With continued protests from viewers and advertisements’ cancellations in the show, SBS decided to cancel it and terminated the contract to purchase its broadcasting rights.
