Youn Yuh Jung has been nominated for the Academy Awards on Best Supporting Actress as the first South Korean woman. After playing the old lady ‘Soonja’ in the film Minari and winning 32 Best Supporting Actress awards at major film festivals, Youn Yuh Jung became a nominee for the 93rd Academy Awards on the 15th (local time). The actress said, “I think this nomination alone is like winning an award. Actors and their performances should not be ranked. Thank you so much for your support; I have never thought this would happen to me at this age.” Minari was nominated for six categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Sound Awards.

Meanwhile, some criticized the unchanging traditions of the Grammy Awards as they rarely award artists of color.

TvN’s Vincenzo sparked controversy with the product placement of a Chinese Bibimbap. In the eighth episode, which aired on the 14th, Hong Cha Young hands Vincenzo Cassano a Chinese Bibimbap. She said, “We need some snacks when watching something entertaining.” It went viral immediately. The internet continued to criticize the show after watching the episode. The Chinese Bibimbap was promoted as if the food was originated from China. Especially with ‘China’s Northeast Project’ intensifying with Kimchi and Hanbok, it became the main point of the argument. That is to say, as the public’s complaints against Vincenzo continued, the production team is under discussion for the cancellation of the remaining Chinese product placement.

Shinhwa’s Eric expressed his complaints against Kim Dong Wan with his SNS on the 14th. Consequently, the rumors of their discord arose. After Kim Dong Wan spoke pessimistically about Shinhwa’s group activities at Clubhouse the previous day, Eric later wrote that he had not communicated well with Kim Dong Wan since their “Sniper” era. In response, Kim Dong Wan also revealed that Eric has not kept in touch with the production team.

Eventually, with member Andy’s help, the two met together to solve it through a discussion. Eric then wrote, “Let’s use this energy to protect Shinhwa and Shinhwa Changjo, instead of fighting or comparing each other’s fault,” implying that they have made peace.
