Jo Sung Hee’s Space Sweepers has received a remake offer from Hollywood.
According to media outlets, Space Sweepers recently received a remake proposal from a studio in Hollywood. Though not much information about the negotiation has been revealed, the industry is finding meaning in the fact that it’s Korea’s first space SF Film that received a remake offer from Hollywood.
Space Sweepers, set in the year 2092, is about the crew of space junk collector ship The Victory jumping into a dangerous deal after discovering a humanoid robot named Dorothy that’s known to be a weapon of mass destruction.
After the report came out, an official from Netflix told YTN Star, “We haven’t had an official proposal (about Space Sweepers Hollywood remake) yet.”
On the other hand, Merry Christmas (investment company) has planned the Space Sweepers franchise from the early stage of production and is currently looking into a sequel and possible film series. However, as director Jo Sung Hee chose live-action adaptation of the Japanese animation Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 as his follow-up project, Space Sweepers sequel production is unclear.
