Originally, the movie was scheduled to be released in theaters to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the game, which the movie is based on. But due to the spread of COVID-19, it was first released on the Chinese streaming platform iQIYI on July 24 and on Netflix on July 25.

In particular, Double World showed its position as a global box office hit movie, achieving an unrivaled record of 42.62 million RMB (about 6.1 million USD) only through iQIYI within 72 hours of its release.
