‘Parasite’ Tops U.K. Box Office In 17 Days Defeating ‘1917’ and Other Powerful Rivals

According to Comscore on Feb. 25, a media measurement and analytics company in the U.S., Parasite took the first place on the British box office while beating other showings such as Emma (2020), Sonic the Hedgehog, 1917 and Dolittle (2020) on the 24th.

Parasite, which ranked No. 3 in the local box office last weekend, surprisingly rose to the top of the daily box office in 17 days after its release in the U.K. Jake Garriock, head of Distribution Strategy and Group Publicity team at Curzon (the British distributor of Parasite), congratulated himself on the film’s local hit by his own tweet, saying “day seventeen of the Parasite release and it finally takes its rightful place at the top of the UK box-office chart.”

Meanwhile, Parasite was recently selected as the foreigners’ favorite K-Movie. According to the announcement by KOFICE (Korean Foundation for International Cultural Exchnge), Parasite topped the Favorite K-Movies chart, one of the results from the “2020 Factual Survey on Hallyu overseas” (answered by nearly 8,000 respondents in 17 foreign countries), with 12.4 percent of all voters. The movie was followed by the 2016 hit Train to Busan, which gained 7.9 percent of all voters.
