The small screens are still hot unlike the big screens, which have become quiet due to Coronavirus. Last week, both Crash Landing on You and Stove League ended with the great finales, making big headlines till the end. Mr. Trot, causing a national craze of trot genre, is on the threshold of hitting the 30 percent mark of viewer ratings. Furthermore, the latest TV programs such as Itaewon Class (the story about a man called Park Sae Roi who begins to revenge against the food enterprise Jang Ga), The Cursed (this is the genre drama that is on a whole other level of thrill), and Traveler Season 2: Argentina (a travel documentray starring Kang Ha Neul, Ahn Jae Hong and Ong Seong Wu) are drawing new attention from the audience. The Dramas on the 2nd week of February, 2020
Crash Landing on You, which broke a new record of ratings for tvN dramas, was by far the most talked work among the public.
According to the TV popularity analysis agency Good Data Corporation on Feb. 19th, Crash Landing on You ended last Sunday while retaining its crown of ratings in the Drama category for five straight weeks and even breaking its own record of popularity score. This drama scored the second highest mark, following JTBC‘s Sky Castle, among the popularity marks of ended dramas that ended since 2019 as of their final weeks. Son Ye Jin and Hyun Bin, two lead actors of Crash Landing on You, ranked first and second in the Popularity of the Cast category for 10 straight weeks, while Kim Jung Hyun and Seo Ji Hye also jumped highly in the same rankings.
The rise of JTBC’s Itaewon Class, which ranked second in the Drama category, is also frightening. Since its premiere on Jan. 31, its popularity score has been on the rise day after day, increasing 47.19 percent versus the previous week. Kim Da Mi and Park Seo Jun ranked third and fourth side by side in the Popularity of the Cast category, while Kwon Nara entered Top 10 on the same chart.
The popularity score of SBS drama Stove League rose 6.96 percent versus the previous week. However, it failed to break its own record of popularity score and finished third in the Drama category. Analysts say that Stove League failed to continue the uptrend of popularity because the entire program was split into the three parts and canceled once on the Lunar New Year holidays. Meanwhile, NamKoong Min, the lead actor of Stove League, ranked fifth on the Popularity of the Cast chart in the Drama category.
The Non-Dramas on the 2nd week of February, 2020
In the Non-Drama category, TV CHOSUN‘s survival audition show Mr. Trot is in an extraordinary mood. Thanks to its overwhelming popularity, Mr. Trot has been at the top of the Non-Drama chart for 8 weeks in a row. It has also been breaking its own record of popularity score for 4 consecutive weeks. In the third round of competition, aired on Feb. 13, the Family Outing team received attention from netizens, and five members of the cast were listed on the Top 10 Popularity of the Cast chart in the Non-Drama category.
Following Mr. Trot, JTBC’s 2You Project – SugarMan3 ranked second in the Non-Drama category. Its popularity score increased 54.08 percent versus the previous week. The Cross, the duo band who appeared as the second Sugar Man after Marronnier, ranked eighth on the Popularity of the Cast chart in the Non-Drama category.
Lastly, MBC‘s reality show I Live Alone was the third of the most popular non-dramas, which made headlines by showing daily lives of Jang Do Yeon and Son Dam Bi. Jang and Son respectively ranked fourth and tenth on the Popularity of the Cast chart in the Non-Drama category.
