The bullying controversy between former April members Lee Naeun and Lee Hyun Joo has resurfaced following Lee Naeun’s recent appearance on KwakTube’s YouTube channel. Several insiders close to the group have now come forward, denying the allegations and claiming no bullying or harassment occurred.
In an interview published by Sports Kyunghyang on September 26, five individuals who worked closely with April stated, “There was no bullying or harassment,” suggesting the situation was misrepresented from the start.
The controversy began in 2021 when Lee Hyun Joo’s younger brother accused April of bullying his sister, leading to her departure from the group. However, a former staff member who had been with the group since their trainee days said, “There were challenges, but it wasn’t one-sided bullying. There were no clear victims or perpetrators.” Another former manager added, “If anything, Lee Hyun Joo’s behavior negatively impacted the group. The other members were the ones affected.”
Two of April’s stylists shared similar views, explaining, “It wasn’t five members against one; it was the opposite—one person made it difficult for the rest.” One stylist emphasized, “Lee Naeun wasn’t capable of leading any sort of bullying,” while criticizing Lee Hyun Joo for missing schedules and being unengaged in group activities.
Another staff member echoed these claims, accusing Lee Hyun Joo of neglecting her responsibilities and causing tension within the group. “This feels like a witch hunt,” one insider said, expressing frustration over Lee Naeun being repeatedly targeted by the public and media.
April disbanded amid the ongoing controversy, which has yet to reach a clear resolution despite legal battles. The issue resurfaced after KwakTube posted a travel video featuring Lee Naeun on September 16, once again drawing attention to the scandal.
