Super Junior members have shared candid stories in their upcoming Disney Plus movie Super Junior: The Last Man Standing.
In 2005, Super Junior debuted as a project group “Super Junior 05,” and at the time, there even was a possibility of members getting replaced. Recalling those days, Yesung talked about the time when he almost got replaced with Ryeowook after failing to imprint his presence at the showcase. “I planned on rooting for Ryeowook, even if his and my life switched places,” he shared.
One thing you have to know about Super Junior is that they’re the first K-pop act to form unit groups. Shindong looked back on his days as Super Junior-T (trot unit group) and said, “Other members were really worried. But I loved it. It felt like I’ve finally found my place.”
When discussing Super Junior’s career, their mega-hit song “Sorry Sorry” cannot be left out. Ahead of preparing for their third album, the members even considered disbanding. However, “Sorry Sorry” became a worldwide hit, even igniting the K-pop craze around the globe. Ryeowook recalled, “If we hadn’t met ‘Sorry Sorry’ in 2009, Super Junior wouldn’t be here now.”
But right after the hit, some members left the group, and the remaining Super Junior boys had to solely focus on keeping the team together. And thanks to that effort, they’re now celebrating their 20th debut anniversary. Siwon elaborated on this particular topic, saying, “It was a crisis for Super Junior, and I was worried that the trust between the members would be broken.”
