Ye Hak Yeong was belatedly revealed to have passed away.

The actor died on the morning of December 24th at the age of 40, according to reports made on December 27th. It is unknown what caused his death.

5tion’s Oh Byung Jin, who was a close friend of Ye Hak Yeong, took to social media and expressed his condolences. “I hope you are happy in heaven. I will pray for you. It is so heartbreaking,” he wrote.

Ye Hak Young debuted as a fashion model in 2001 and pursued his modeling career along with Kang Dong Won, Gong Yoo and Ju Ji Hoon until he switched gears to acting. Staring with MBC’s 2003 sitcom Nonstop 4, he began expanding his career as an actor through many different projects such as A Millionaire’s First LoveThe Cut and Like Father, Like Son. However, he was arrested for smuggling and possessing narcotic substances in 2009. He reportedly injected and sold drugs that actress Yoon Sul Hee had bought him. He was later sentenced to two years and six months in prison, four years of probation and two hundred hours of community service.

After taking a long hiatus due to his drug abuse, he resumed activities and starred in programs like Mnet’s Serenade Operation and tvN’s Korea’s Got Talent 2. He was then jailed for DUI in 2018 and 2019 and has since remained out of the spotlight until he became a businessman just recently.
