MBC’s upcoming Friday-Saturday drama Motel California has released a romantic teaser showcasing Lee Se Young and Na In Woo‘s enduring first love that has spanned over two decades.
Motel California tells the story of a woman born and raised in a countryside motel who reunites with her first love after returning to her hometown, which she fled 12 years ago. Based on the popular 2019 novel Home, Bitter Home, the series stars Lee Se Young as Ji Gang Hee, an interior designer who’s weathered life’s challenges, and Na In Woo as Cheon Yeon Su, whose life takes an unexpected turn after reuniting with Gang Hee, the girl he’s loved since childhood.
The newly released teaser captures their love story that began 23 years ago, from their adorable first meeting at age 9 to their present-day reunion. Gang Hee’s words, “They say if you catch snowflakes in your mouth ten times, your first love will come true,” showing the innocent young couple taking turns catching snowflakes and promising to marry each other.
As teenagers, we see a reserved high school Gang Hee and teddy bear-like Yeon Su enjoying sweet moments. The clip later shows Yeon Su’s dramatic transformation, trading his cuddly appearance for a sharp new look that leaves Gang Hee asking, “Is that really Yeon Su?” He confronts her with an emotional “Haven’t you missed me, Gang Hee?” Yet, Gang Hee turns away from this changed version of him, while Yeon Su is captured shedding heartfelt tears, hinting at the rocky road ahead.
The teaser culminates with Yeon Su’s confession, “You’re my first. That’s why I’ll wait for you,” followed by a tender hug from the back, leaving viewers wondering if these lifelong first loves can overcome their past and build a future together.
Motel California premieres Friday, January 10th, 2025, at 9:50 PM KST on MBC.
