ADOR is claiming in court that Danielle was the only NewJeans member to carry out independent music and commercial activities, while Danielle is pushing back.
On July 2nd, the Seoul Central District Court held the third hearing in ADOR’s damages lawsuit against Danielle, her mother and former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin.
During the hearing, ADOR argued that Danielle had already begun acting as an independent musician, citing evidence related to her work with the American band Emotional Oranges, including recording and production-related expenses.
“Among the NewJeans members, Danielle is the only one who acted as an independent musician,” ADOR stated, adding that any instrumental or vocal activity not carried out through ADOR would violate her exclusive contract.
ADOR also pointed to financial records related to NJZ, the name NewJeans members adopted after announcing the termination of their exclusive contracts with the company. The label argued that NJZ functioned as a kind of entertainment business organization formed to support activities that allegedly violated the members’ contracts.
The company also referenced a recording from September 2024, claiming that Min had been in contact with Chinese investors as part of an effort to separate NewJeans from ADOR.
Danielle’s side strongly denied the claims, arguing from the start of the hearing that ADOR had been making details from private conversations and contract documents public through the media.
During the hearing, Danielle’s team stressed that reports reflecting only ADOR’s position had repeatedly come out after each court date. But the presiding judge responded, “Do not focus on the reporters. Focus on the judge.”
Danielle’s side also disputed ADOR’s claims about her work with Emotional Oranges, saying there had been no real financial profit from the activity. “To our knowledge, there was no separate payment related to Emotional Oranges,” they said. “NJZ was also an activity involving all the members, but ADOR is only taking issue with Danielle.”
