Hwasa confessed that she has difficulty hearing in one ear.

On the July 13th episode of KBS2’s Crazy Rich Koreans, viewers got an inside look at the life of Hwasa. The show followed her to Boston on the 20th day of her North American tour.

That day, Hwasa seemed unusually subdued. She was struggling with a sore throat and clearly wasn’t feeling her best. “That was the hardest day of the tour,” she admitted. “I honestly felt like I was getting sick and was really worried about having the energy and stamina to get through the show.”

Fellow panelist Park Se Ri chimed in, “You’re near the end of the tour, so you must be exhausted.” Hwasa agreed, adding, “And New York was freezing.”

Despite feeling unwell, Hwasa pushed forward. She arrived at the venue and saved her voice, quietly greeting the staff before rehearsals. Her voice was noticeably hoarse, and she was too nervous to eat afterward.

On top of everything, an old foot injury started acting up again, and she had to wrap it before the show. Seeing this, host Jeon Hyun Moo asked Park Se Ri, “Have you ever had to play through an injury like that?”

Park, a legendary athlete, replied, “Most athletes have. You just push through it. You tape it up, tell yourself it’s fine, and keep going because you have to—that’s what makes it so tough,” showing her admiration for Hwasa’s resilience.

Hwasa is known for her intense choreography and never holds back in rehearsals. Jeon Hyun Moo remarked, “It seems like you should avoid such demanding routines with an injury.” Hwasa replied, “But it’s the same for the dancers. We’re all in it together.”

Even with the setbacks, the Boston venue was packed with fans. When asked which city was the loudest, Hwasa said, “Seattle and LA were wild.”

She also opened up about a more serious health concern: her hearing. “The crowd was so loud I had to crank my in-ear monitor to the max, but I still couldn’t hear myself. If you turn it up that high, you can get tinnitus or even damage your eardrum. I had it turned up so far that the monitor actually blew out.”

YouTuber Kwak Tube asked, “Wow, didn’t that hurt your ear?” Hwasa confirmed, “Yeah, I can’t hear very well out of this ear now,” pointing to her left.

A shocked Jeon Hyun Moo asked, “From that one concert?”

Hwasa explained, “No, it wasn’t just from that. My eardrum has been weak for a while because I always have to have the volume turned up so loud. I constantly have a ringing in my ears, too.”

Her candid confession left the panel in awe of her dedication to performing, no matter the personal cost.
