Annie of rookie K-pop group ALLDAY PROJECT is quickly proving she’s more than just a “chaebol idol.”
In a recent episode of the YouTube show “Psick Show,” Annie joined fellow group members Tarzzan and Bailey for a hilarious interview where her quick wit, honest charm, and unique background stole the spotlight.
When asked by host Lee Yong Joo about the biggest New Year’s allowance she’s ever received—given that she’s the granddaughter of Shinsegae Group’s honorary chairwoman Lee Myung Hee and daughter of Shinsegae Department Store president Chung Yoo Kyung—Annie casually replied, “I’ve never spent Lunar New Year in Korea. I was always in New York.” When pressed further about her allowance, she added with a laugh, “I just got basic living expenses in dollars.”
The real showstopper came when Annie impersonated her mother, Shinsegae Chairman Jung Yu Kyung’s reaction to her debut news. “When I went to my room and said ‘Mom, I made it,’ she just said ‘Really? How interesting,'” Annie shared, perfectly mimicking her mother’s tone and sending the studio into fits of laughter.
Annie’s academic credentials are equally impressive—she was accepted to Columbia University with an SAT score of 1530 out of 1600, which she says helped convince her parents to let her pursue idol life. When asked to show off a talent, she offered a Doraemon impression, but the hosts agreed her mom imitation had way more variety show potential. Annie laughed and said, “Okay, I’ll work on it.”
ALLDAY PROJECT officially debuted last month with their single FAMOUS. Their double title track “WICKED” performance video hit #1 on YouTube’s trending videos, while “FAMOUS” topped Melon’s TOP100 chart, creating massive buzz.
While Annie drew attention early on for her chaebol lineage, she’s now turning heads with her stage presence, humor, and brains.
