Kim Soo Hyun filed a criminal complaint for false accusation against the bereaved family of the late Kim Sae Ron and the operator of the YouTube channel HoverLab on June 23rd.
According to sources, Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team submitted the complaint to the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul on June 23rd.
Earlier on May 7th, attorney Boo Ji Seok, the legal representative of the bereaved family, and Kim Se Ui, the operator of HoverLab, held a press conference to announce that the family had filed charges against Kim Soo Hyun for violating the Child Welfare Act and for false accusation.
During the press conference, the YouTube channel’s operator played an audio recording, claiming it was a conversation the late Kim Sae Ron had with an acquaintance. The recording included statements such as, “It started during my second year of middle school, during winter break,” and “I feel like I was used.”
Right after the press conference, Kim Soo Hyun’s team claimed the recording seemed to be an AI-generated audio file, calling it “fake evidence meant to ruin the actor’s reputation.” They also warned of taking strong legal action.
It took over a month for Kim Soo Hyun to officially file the false accusation complaint, likely due to procedural limitations.
To file a criminal complaint for false accusation, the original accuser must first be clearly identified. It was only on June 13th that Kim Soo Hyun’s side was able to identify the accuser through a request to view the complaint documents and file the false accusation case.
