Lee Da Hae recently revealed that her husband SE7EN jokingly suggested a “graduation from marriage” on their wedding anniversary. The term “graduation from marriage,” derived from the Japanese word “sotsukon” refers to couples who remain legally married but live independently from each other.
The couple appeared on the May 25 episode of SBS’s variety show My Little Old Boy, where they met with groom-to-be Kim Jun Ho, who visited them to deliver his wedding invitation. Kim shares a close bond with the couple and even sang the congratulatory song at their wedding two years ago.
Lee Da Hae said, “We throw a party every year for our anniversary. I had something I wanted to buy, and my husband told me, ‘Just buy what you want. But when you’re with me, it has to be expensive.’ So I bought a pricey bracelet. Even though he lacks in the small details, he’s manly and knows how to make big gestures, so I have no complaints.”
But this year’s celebration came with a surprising moment. “I had to fly to China on our anniversary, so he drove me to the airport,” she recalled. “As he held my hand, he said, ‘Babe, the past two years have been amazing. Let’s be happy for the next 20 years.’ I asked, ‘Only 20?’ and he said, ‘After that… let’s graduate from our marriage?’ I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.”
SE7EN quickly laughed it off, saying, “I was just joking! I saw a video recently about a couple who celebrated a 60th birthday with a ‘graduation from marriage’ and thought it was funny, so I just said it without thinking.” But Lee responded firmly, “Jokes that go too far can be harmful.”
Lee Da Hae also drew attention for her growing popularity in China. On her YouTube channel, she shared, “I got a taste of the scale of Chinese influencers when I flew on a private jet. A friend of mine with 110 million followers was planning to do a live broadcast in Korea and urgently contacted me to appear as a guest. Their sales target? 400 billion won. ($293 million)”
She continued, “They were worried about transportation, but then said they’d send a private jet. They rented a jet for about 70 million won ($51,000) just to have me on their livestream. The interior was luxurious—it was amazing.” The next day, she joined the live broadcast at a hotel in Korea for just 30 minutes and reportedly helped generate over 20 billion won ($14.6 million) in sales.
In addition, it was revealed that in 2016, Lee purchased a building under a corporation believed to be owned by her family for 4.6 billion won ($3.4 million), and sold it in August 2022 for 24 billion won ($17.5 million)—earning a profit of nearly 20 billion won ($14.6 million).
Lee Da Hae and SE7EN tied the knot in 2023 after dating for eight years. The couple has since appeared together on shows like Channel A’s Trendy Men’s Lifestyle, giving fans a glimpse into their married life.
